Minamo Technology

The patent-pending Minamo coating technology consists of two steps:

  1. Environmentally friendly surface activation with simple hydroxyl amines, using non-toxic solvent to introduce amino groups to the silicone surface. The presence of amino groups can be confirmed by ninhydrin- and FITC assays

  2. Coating with biomolecules to confer antimicrobial properties to the silicone surface

The Minamo technology presents a novel approach without occupational hazards, environmental concerns or regulatory barriers.

Antimicrobial properties

The remarkable antimicrobial properties of the Minamo coating were demonstrated using four pathogens commonly associated with hospital-acquired infections, evaluating the performance of both uncoated silicone and Minamo-coated silicone samples. Furthermore, we compared our results to those obtained from steel, a material frequently utilized in healthcare settings. When compared to uncoated silicone, the Minamo coating exhibited a significant reduction in colony forming units (CFU/mL) across all tested pathogens, achieving reductions of 2-3 log units. Impressively, our coating demonstrated superior resistance to bacterial colonization even when compared to steel.
